Phoenix vs Blyth 2nds XV (Northumberland League)
It was a sunny, but freezing cold day at Broadway West, as the Phoenix hosted our friends from Blyth. In this league encounter, both sides took the title literally by playing 13-a-side! The attitude exemplified all the good things about our game and 27 blokes got a day out in the sunshine (ref, Anthony Lowery, included!). Designated skipper, CJ, led the lads out and proceeded to grab a hat-trick of tries for himself! This tally was matched by Ian Black, who also crossed three times on his return. Mike Crilly, Adrian Chamberlain, Adam Wasylkiw, Owen Ramsey, Joe Morris and Dan Slater also scored. Altogether we grabbed 12 tries. Goal-kicker supremo, Jason Jones, added a few conversions (6) and, apparently (according to him) had some bad luck with others. CJ got the other. Final score was 74-19. Blyth never gave up and both sides thanked the ref for his handling of the game. The lads then volunteered to clear up, allowing Pres, John Tucker, to head up to Blyth to support the 1sts!
Team was Joe Morris; Mike Crilly; Ian Black; Owen Ramsey; Andrew Camplejohn; Dan Slater; Owen Ramsey;Jeremy Peirson; Chris Morris; Alex Miller; Adam Wasylkiw; Tom Atkinson; Jason Jones.
Two magnificent wins for the first time this season and a post-match, which saw the excellent spirit continue in the bar! The victorious 1sts came back to OUR clubhouse and under CJ's guidance and Keith Gibson's willingness to serve the lads, despite his having been at BW since 9.30 am, a great end to the day was had by all. Great to see!!
